Remarkable faces

13 Nov 2008

Long time I wanted to write about this man. Its not like the world needs it, he is mashaAllah famous enough. But, subhanAllah, he is among those people who inspire me a lot. Enough that I see some of those faces, I feel better immediately. I will just put their photos here, short info and link to more detailed articles - as a reminder to myself :) If anyone else would benefit, me - more happy :))

Shaikh Ali Gomaa (علي جمعة) is one of them. The Grand Mufty of Egypt succeeding Ahmad El-Tayeb. He has been called “one of the most widely respected jurists in the Sunni Muslim world,” and described as “a highly promoted champion of moderate Islam,” gender equality, and an “object of hatred among Islamists.” He specializes in the science of the foundations of Islamic Law - Usul al-fiqh. He follows the Shafi`i school of Islamic jurisprudence.

Article I specially liked about him was the one by sister Ethar El-Katatney written for the “Egypt Today”, named The People’s Mufty.

She pointed out that: “His critics, as much as they dislike him or his fatwas, respect him greatly and can never deny that his opinions are founded on solid research, and that his arguments are properly formulated.”

Also you can find out more about Shaikh here, some of his lectures here and his official website in English here.

 Enjoy! <3
